Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) Support Engineer to work on our Reactor Project Engineering team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our MFC facility with every Friday off.
The NRIC Support Engineer applies engineering principles to assigned nuclear facilities, including structures, systems, components, and experiment infrastructure. This role involves analysis, design, fabrication, installation, configuration management, and operational performance support activities. The engineer will provide oversight, guidance, and stewardship of facility and experiment infrastructure and processes, enabling research, development, and demonstration of nuclear science and technologies.

Advanced degree in mechanical engineering or a directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution.

Responsibilities Include
- Evaluate, design, maintain, modify, install, and test facility systems and process support systems to ensure continued operational readiness.
- Initiate corrective actions or order plant shutdowns in emergency situations.
- Monitor nuclear facility operations to identify any practices that violate safety regulations or laws, or could jeopardize safe operations.
- Develop and write procedures for the modification and/or operation of facilities, equipment, and processes.
- Examine accidents to obtain data for designing preventive measures.
- Direct operating or maintenance activities to ensure efficiency and conformity to safety standards.
- Determine the optimum configuration for experiments and perform analysis to demonstrate compliance with safety limits.
- Develop and maintain configuration management and the technical baseline of multiple systems and component groups.
- Develop and modify loop chemistry requirements and perform core load verification.
- Support facility operations, maintenance personnel, and project personnel to ensure systems and equipment meet operational and research needs.
- Establish experiment insertion and removal documentation, document experiment requirements and operating information, and support design reviews for various experiments and experiment loops.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or a directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering or a directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 2 years of relevant experience; or a PhD in mechanical engineering or a directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 2 years of relevant experience.
- Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or a directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 9 years of relevant experience; or a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering or a directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 6 years of relevant experience; or a PhD in mechanical engineering or a directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution and 4 years of relevant experience.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information
- The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($93,204 - $191,076) / Level 4 ($111,888 - $229,284). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
