What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technoeconomic and Sustainability Research Scientist position at Idaho National Laboratory?
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Technoeconomic and Sustainability Research Scientist to work in our Decision Sciences department. You will report to the department manager. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off.
You will work on a diverse team advancing bioenergy and industrial processes. You will contribute expertise in technoeconomic assessment, lifecycle assessment, and industrial engineering. You will apply these insights to INL’s analysis research thrust that has the overarching goal to assess pathways for scaling-up biofuel production. You will also lead new research proposals that apply your expertise to additional domains.
Responsibilities Include :
- Leading and contributing to technoeconomic assessments and lifecycle assessments. This includes knowing when and how to use industry-accepted tools and having the expertise to develop new tools.
- Contribute to and build the team’s scientific eminence, for example through making major contributions to presentations, reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, invention disclosures, and external engagement.
- Apply extensive expertise in application of mathematics, statistics, logic, and computer programming languages in the design, development, optimization, and testing of models that approximate physical entities or processes.
- Provide imaginative, and practicable solutions to multiple complex, ambiguous, or difficult problems.
- Serve as a principal investigator (PI) / Co-PI on projects or tasks requiring originality, ingenuity, and strong project management.

The pay range for this position is : Level 3 ($93,204 - $191,076) / Level 4 ($111,888 - $229,284). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
Multi-Level : This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
