JOB DESCRIPTION: Coding/Billing Specialist. Full Time. Monday - Friday. 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
REPORTS TO: Business Office Manager
DUTIES OF JOB:
1) Code charges, to include exams, x-rays, supplies, surgeries, and physical therapy.
2) Submit all claims to appropriate insurance.
3) Follow up on insurance claims.
4) Work with insurance companies to resolve claim issues, pre-authorize and pre-certify as needed, know insurance policies to the extent needed to process claims and help patients with their insurance issues.
5) Post insurance and/or personal payments, to include submitting secondaries after primary insurance payments and knowing when to obtain review for improper fee schedule payment.
6) Audit charts for correct coding. Follow-up with physicians or physical therapists when documentation is missing or incomplete.
7) Prepare daily deposit and maintain deposit spreadsheet.
8) Answer phone calls when needed.
9) Assists the business office manager and/or Administrator in coding and billing audits. Reports results to the physicians as a part of ongoing education and revenue cycle process improvement.
10)Perform other back-up duties, as indicated.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school, including courses in computer usage, keyboard and software, such as Word, Excel, etc. CPC or RHIT strongly preferred. Medical terminology course is desirable. Attend continuing education courses to keep current with insurance and coding issues, as well as keeping abreast of all insurance/industry changes. Possess a preference for dealing with patients who are injured and need our help. Be willing and able to work independently or in a team situation. Possess the tact to deal effectively with patients, other employees and the physicians. Must be accurate in work and keep all dealings with patients confidential.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Does not supervise any other employee(s). Receives supervision from Clinic
Administrator and Business Office Manager.
AUTHORITY BOUNDARIES: Reports to Clinic Administrator and/or Business Office Manager
