Ada County Trial Court Administration (POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY : This position provides court security services for Fourth Judicial District Courthouse facilities and is responsible for the general security and safety of all those who use the county court facilities. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS : The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Ada County Sheriff's Office and daily supervision of the Court Security Sergeant. Work is performed independently in some circumstances, raising questions to the supervisor for unusual or complex situations. Work duties and activities are completed in accordance with the policies, procedures, and safety practices of Ada County, the Ada County Sheriff's Office, and the Fourth Judicial District. Essential Functions Provides security for the Ada County Courthouse, Ada County Juvenile Court Services Building, and / or other Ada County buildings as appropriate; Provides courtroom security during court proceedings; Takes individuals into custody within the courtroom as directed by a Judge; Provides security for Judges, court staff, juries, county employees and the public; Monitors jury activities including jury orientation; arranging accommodations and transportation, escorting jurors to crime scenes, and tracking expenses; Assists in monitoring x-ray and metal detector equipment to eliminate and secure all contraband and or illegal weapons from entering Ada County facilities; Assists the public by providing information and answering inquiries about court schedule, locations, and procedures; Investigates and submits detailed written reports; Takes emergency action and / or notifies emergency personnel as the situation warrants. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS : Serves subpoenas and summons in both civil and criminal matters; Serves arrest warrants; Performs Bailiff duties; Performs related duties as required. Job Requirements Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent; A minimum of 12 months related experience and / or training; or an equivalent combination of experience and training; Good knowledge of law enforcement practices; Good knowledge of fundamental security policies and procedures; Good knowledge of court procedures; Good knowledge of security equipment and screening methods; Knowledge of process serving regulations; Good skill in use of firearms; Skill in the use of computer programs; Ability to hear, listen to, and understand radio transmissions using an ear piece; Ability to communicate effectively in both verbally and in writing; Ability to perform necessary searches of persons, personal belongings, and buildings; Ability to keep accurate records; Ability to prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports; Ability to deal firmly and courteously with the public; Ability to remain alert at all times; Ability to operate security and screening equipment; Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations; Ability to maintain a professional image and demeanor sufficient to facilitate the accomplishment of his / her direction to others; Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively to recognize actual and potential dangers; Ability to make sound, reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established procedures; Ability to perform duties without posing a direct or indirect threat to the health and / or safety of the public, court, employees, and / or incumbent. OTHER REQUIREMENTS : Must adhere to Idaho Judicial Branch Code of Conduct for non-judicial employees; Must be able to qualify with a handgun and maintain proficiency in the use of firearms; Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver's license; Must successfully pass an in-depth background investigation and have no felony convictions or history of domestic violence; Must meet all training and certification standards required by the position; This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing. Work Environment & Physical Demands Must be able to work day or night shifts, as needed; Most of the work is performed in and around courthouse facilities and involves an element of personal danger; Sufficient manual dexterity to use a firearm safely and effectively; The work requires sufficient physical strength to subdue an uncooperative individual(s) and move quickly to places of confrontation or potential trouble.
