Highway Apprentice Technician
In the Idaho Division of Human Resources, we're seeking a skilled Highway Apprentice Technician to join our team. This role is part of an award-winning agency dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Idaho through transportation development.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop their skills through on-the-job training, classroom instruction, and achievement of team goals and agency objectives. This position requires a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 60 days of hire, as well as pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
This 3-5 year horizontal career path offers a unique chance for professional growth and development. Key responsibilities include:
- Serving an apprenticeship with on-the-job instruction, classroom training, or self-study courses
- Performing entry-level technical highway maintenance and engineering work
- Operating various power tools and equipment to maintain roadways, signs, bridges, and other transportation facilities
- Conducting routine inspections and field tests on construction and maintenance projects
- Sample and routine material testing
- Entry-level traffic services activities such as striping and replacing and repairing traffic signs and posts
Work Environment: The ideal candidate must be willing and physically able to work in all types of weather conditions, under hazardous conditions, on congested highways, around operating equipment, and in a noisy environment. Frequent travel to and from the work site with some overnight stay is required.
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the minimum qualifications:
- Valid driver's license
- Experience operating vehicles with manual transmissions
Additionally, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Class A CDL with tanker endorsement required within 60 days of hire
- Position may be required to work irregular shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays
An essential function of this position is driving an ITD vehicle. Incumbents are required to successfully pass a driving record check to be considered for this position. Please note: Employees are responsible to understand and comply with the Idaho Transportation Department's drug and alcohol procedures.
