Post Masters Research Associate - Residential Buildings at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Boise, Idaho, United States Job Description Overview The Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Division of PNNL is accelerating the transition to a decarbonized, efficient, resilient, and secure energy system through basic and applied research. We leverage a strong technical foundation in power and energy systems and in advanced data analytics to drive innovation, transform markets, and shape energy policy. The Market Transformation Team at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is soliciting applications for a Post-Masters Research Associate position to study energy efficiency in residential buildings. The successful applicant will support programs within the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The research associate will conduct research and convey research findings in support of DOE's Building America and Zero Energy Ready Home programs. These programs are focused on supporting U.S. home building industries in improving America's housing stock through research into technologies and methods for constructing single-family, multi-family, manufactured, and modular homes to be more energy-efficient, durable, healthy, sustainable, disaster resistant, and cost effective for all Americans, with the objective of improving homeowner options for efficient housing with energy security and cost savings. The Research Associate will work with a collaborative team of researchers focused on different aspects of residential buildings research. Responsibilities Conduct analysis and assessment of data collected on new construction and retrofit projects through field studies and other reporting mechanisms. Collect data on construction projects via field research and other means. Synthesize DOE-funded research results into actionable guidance useful to builder, contractor, and homeowner DIY audiences. Write, edit, and produce guidance on construction techniques and technologies for furthering U.S. home building competitiveness. Disseminate this guidance through various means including DOE websites. Conduct quality assurance on provided guidance. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications : Candidates must have received a Master's degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Preferred Qualifications : MS in architectural engineering, architecture, building science, or civil engineering from an accredited institution. Experience working in diverse and interdisciplinary teams. Good interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with Drupal, Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS office programs. Familiarity with building science terminology and concepts. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws. Mandatory Requirements Please be aware that the Department of Energy (DOE) prohibits DOE employees and contractors from having any affiliation with the foreign government of a country DOE has identified as a 'country of risk' without explicit approval by DOE and Battelle.
