Job Description
The Department of Teaching and Educational Studies (TES) in the College of Education at Idaho State University invites applicants for a 10-month Post-Doctoral position to focus on STEM education projects within the department, with an anticipated start date of August 2025. The purpose of this position is to support the Idaho Making Progress Against the Critical Teacher Shortage in STEM (IMPACTS) project—an NSF Noyce-funded project—and advance the STEM education research and outreach of the department and college. This position is projected for two years (2025-2026 and 2026-2027), though the second year is dependent upon sufficient progress and annual evaluation after the first year.
This position will be based on ISU’s main campus in Pocatello, ID. The Department of TES currently offers undergraduate majors in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, Music Education, and Early Childhood Education. Additionally, TES offers masters-level programs for currently certified teachers in Deaf Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Music Education, and Special Education, as well as the Masters of Arts in Teaching for those who hold an undergraduate degree outside of education but are seeking a master’s degree that qualifies them for initial Idaho teacher certification.
This position requires a demonstrated commitment to collaborative research and a strong understanding of research-based teaching practices. Additionally, the person hired for this position will be located in Pocatello but may be required to travel for research-related projects. This position also includes a one-course teaching commitment, per semester, as well as STEM education outreach support and assisting the PI team with project management.
Key Responsibilities
Conducting collaborative research:
- Collecting and managing qualitative and quantitative data such as conducting semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and administering surveys
- Analyzing data with qualitative and quantitative tools
- Professionally interacting with beginning teachers, cooperating teachers, administrators and students at local schools
- Writing for publications and presenting research findings at conferences and professional meetings
Teaching:
- Teach courses in the undergraduate and/or graduate educator preparation programs using a variety of instructional modalities, including distance/remote technologies as needed.
Assisting with IMPACTS project management and delivery of services:
- Coordinate/participate in outreach and engagement activities
- Plan and execute STEM education professional learning workshops and/or STEM learning experiences for Noyce scholars and/or K-12 students
- Monitor Noyce Scholar commitments
- Coordinate with a variety of personnel such as Noyce Scholars, university and project personnel, mentors, school administrators, and/or school districts to coordinate placement of Noyce Scholars;
- Help with planning and delivery of events in all four phases, as well as maintain records for the project; and
- Assist the PIs with other project-related needs
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD or EdD with a science education or mathematics education focus
- A research focus on teaching/learning in K-12 STEM education
- Experience in conducting qualitative research
- Strong commitment to teaching and service initiatives as set forth by the department, college, and university
- Ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously, assuming responsibility
- Demonstrated capacity to work with a variety of populations (i.e., faculty, K-12 teachers, and students) as well as to prepare future education professionals to work with a variety of populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching in higher education
- Experience with the Danielson Framework for Teaching
- Technical skills, such as operating video equipment and utilization of online learning tools
- Classroom experience and/or internship supervision experience
- Potential to secure externally-funded projects
- Experience in quantitative data analysis

Salary will be between $55,000 - $60,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
