Position Summary
A yard jockey, also known as a yard switcher, plays a crucial role in the transportation and logistics industry. They are responsible for the movement and organization of trailers within a yard, will also ensure that all movements are tracked in YMS and work hand and hand with operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Moving and Organizing Trailers : Yard jockeys use specialized equipment, such as yard tractors or spotter trucks, to maneuver trailers within the yard only, never on the street.
- Inspecting and Maintaining Equipment : They regularly inspect trailers and equipment for damage and ensure proper maintenance
- Coordinating with Teams : Yard jockeys work closely with warehouse and transportation teams to ensure efficient loading and unloading of trailers
