Compensation: $65,000-$85,000 base plus quarterly/performance bonus
First Benefits Insurance Mutual, Inc., a Raleigh-based Workers’ Compensation insurance company writing business in NC, SC, GA, KY & VA. First Benefits Underwriters, LLC, is a joint venture in partnership with First Benefits Insurance Mutual, Inc., providing wholesale and E&S insurance solutions to independent agencies in the Southeast. These two companies are collectively referenced herein as First Benefits.
First Benefits is hiring an Underwriter/Broker to join its growing team in Raleigh. We are seeking a growth-minded individual that can work within an agile framework and provide Underwriting experience across multiple-lines of coverage to support both First Benefits’ insurance company and its in-house wholesale brokerage.

This is an in-office/in-person position with flexibility for remote work at management’s discretion.
Duties & Requirements:
- Report to the Underwriting Manager.
- Evaluate, select and price Workers Compensation policies to achieve an underwriting profit.
- Gather, analyze and evaluate risk exposure through appropriate risk documentation.
- Work within specific authority level to quote, accept, decline and modify risks within territorial assignment in accordance with accepted underwriting guidelines.
- Ensure maintenance and growth of profitable business partners by responding to inquiries and resolving agency objectives in a timely, professional and informative manner.
- Oversee the preparation of submissions to partnered carriers including applications and various supporting documents.
- Following submissions through process, ensuring quotes are provided to agents in a timely manner.
- Work with the Business Development team to solicit new business opportunities.
- Market new and renewal business to partnered carriers.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree preferred with 3 – 5 years relevant insurance industry experience
- Strong computer skills—MS Office and data entry skills required
- Excellent written and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers--Customer Service is a priority focus
- Sound, balanced and timely decision making skills
- Working knowledge of the independent agency system a plus
- Industry designations, such as CPCU, AU or other relevant industry education
- Producer licenses and Surplus Lines licenses are preferred but not required
Salary : $60,000 - $80,000
