Director of Finance Compliance
Mission:
IDEA Public schools is seeking a Director of Finance Compliance to join our growing Business Office team. As the Director of Finance Compliance, you will report to the Managing Director of Grants and support the Finance Team regarding all aspects of federal, state and local finance compliance.
As a member of the National team, you will support all 13 regions across 4 states to achieve annual operating income goals while remaining good stewards of public funds and donations. You will be a subject matter expert on federal, state, and local financial laws, policies, and procedures and be adept at translating them to stakeholders across the organization.

Location:
This is a full-time remote position based in Texas with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.
Travel Expectations:
Up to 15% of the time during the busiest parts of the year
What You’ll Do – Accountabilities
Essential Duties:
- Ensure national, regional and campus leaders understand the importance of financial compliance and their responsibility as IDEA Public Schools fiduciaries, support them in making real connections to their functional work, and the rules and regulations regarding financial compliance and public funds.
- Support the education and development of members of the Finance Team across Financial Planning and Analysis, Treasury, Accounting and IPS Finance to educate leaders regarding financial compliance, areas of risk, and key performance indicators.
- Supporting the Financial Compliance and Grants Team with the grant drawdown processes, which can include participation in grant director’s meetings to provide input regarding the allowability of specific expenses and processes
- Preparing periodic compliance reporting for Directors and the Business Office Team; the task will require active coordination with cross-functional stakeholders. Superior communication skills are required to properly facilitate this work;
- Ensuring all financial compliance requirements are met in a timely manner, including Time and Effort maintenance reporting, job descriptions and offer letters meet the federal reporting requirements;
- Maintaining all relevant internal controls and enhancing them where possible. Developing and implementing processes and procedures for obtaining appropriate backup in a timely manner;
- Support the Managing Director of Grants in building and revising finance policies across legal entities
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Internal Audit and Finance Teams to ensure internal audits are supported by the Finance Team, results are cascaded and understood by appropriate parties, and corrective action plans are implemented with fidelity
- Manages the development of tools designed to measure compliance as the team continues to develop any, and all, corrective action plans related to federal, state and local fund sources
- Ensure appropriate Finance Team members are accessing resources and attending trainings related to updates to Federal and State financial compliance requirements
- Partner with Schools Team leaders to ensure Campus Needs Assessments and Student Achievement Improvement Plans are robust/comprehensive and meet requirements
- Establish Finance standard operating procedure (SOP) library; ensure SOPs are comprehensive and reflect current processes and are living documents through consistent review
- Ensure Finance Team operating procedures and practices are in accordance with federal, state and local requirements; consistently evaluate team processes
- Ensure the Finance compliance calendar is strategic and comprehensive; hold teams accountable to internal milestones and deadlines
- Establishes appropriate national or regional financial benchmarking to support evaluation
- Build a solid and robust plan to evaluate the team’s training resources and help adjust training resources as needed to provide high quality professional development.

Required experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or economics
- 2 years’ experience in finance leadership or financial compliance
Preferred experience:
- Master’s degree in accounting, business administration, or economics (Preferred)
- 3-5 years’ experience in the above (Preferred)

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $89,600 and $105,300, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
