Description : Job Summary :
The ESL (English as a Second Language) Instructor is responsible for developing and delivering English language instruction to non-native English-speaking students. This role focuses on improving students' language skills, with particular emphasis on the vocabulary, communication, and cultural competencies necessary for success in their vocational training programs and future careers. The ESL Instructor tailors lessons to meet the diverse needs of students, supports academic and career readiness, and collaborates with other instructors to reinforce language skills within the vocational curriculum and workplace communication.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Curriculum Development & Lesson Planning :
- Implement ESL curricula that align with the vocational training school’s academic and career-focused goals.
- Develop lessons that cover reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, with a focus on the terminology and communication skills relevant to students’ vocational fields.
- Incorporate practical language exercises that prepare students for real-life scenarios and workplace communication.
2. Instruction & Classroom Management :
Deliver engaging and interactive ESL instruction tailored to different proficiency levels and learning styles.Use diverse teaching methods, including role-play, discussions, multimedia, and hands-on activities, to reinforce language learning.Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and language practice.3. Assessment & Progress Monitoring :
Assess students’ English proficiency levels through initial evaluations and ongoing assessments to tailor instruction and track progress.Provide regular feedback to students on their language development and areas for improvement.Conduct evaluations and record student achievements to ensure they meet language proficiency standards for their vocational studies and career readiness.4. Vocational Language Integration :
Collaborate with vocational instructors to incorporate relevant vocational terminology and scenarios into ESL lessons, ensuring students understand technical language in their fields.Help students practice the language skills necessary for specific job functions, such as interviewing, workplace communication, and customer service.Provide focused instruction on industry-specific language, including health care, business, technology, or other fields relevant to the vocational programs.5. Individualized Support & Language Coaching :
Offer one-on-one tutoring and language coaching as needed, helping students with specific challenges related to language or cultural adjustments.Develop individualized learning plans for students needing additional language support to meet academic and vocational goals.Provide support for students working toward language certification or other language-based requirements for their vocational programs.6. Cultural Competency & Soft Skills Development :
Teach cultural norms, workplace etiquette, and soft skills essential for effective communication in professional environments.Integrate lessons on cultural nuances, teamwork, and problem-solving to help students succeed in diverse work settings.Provide insights into the cultural aspects of the U.S. workplace to support students in adapting to professional expectations and interactions.7. Resource Development & Classroom Materials :
Develop and update instructional materials, including worksheets, multimedia resources, and assessments, that reflect the vocational focus of the school.Utilize a variety of educational tools, including digital resources, language learning software, and online platforms, to enhance instruction.Maintain a library of resources and reference materials that students can access for additional practice and study.8. Student Progress Reporting & Administrative Tasks :
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and assessments in line with school policies.Prepare progress reports and communicate with academic advisors, career services, and other faculty regarding students' language development.Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development to stay current with ESL teaching methods and vocational program goals.Requirements : Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field; master’s degree in TESOL or ESL preferred.TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, or equivalent ESL teaching certification.Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching ESL, preferably in a vocational or adult education setting.Knowledge of vocational terminology and career-readiness skills in fields such as health care, technology, business, or trade professions.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.Proficiency with educational technology, including language learning platforms and multimedia teaching tools.Key Competencies :
