Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant Instructor is responsible to lead students through both the clinical and administrative aspects of Medical Assisting. This role involves teaching course material, providing hands-on clinical training, and helping students develop the skills needed to thrive in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction & Curriculum Delivery:
- Conduct classes covering medical assistant skills, including clinical procedures (vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs) and administrative tasks (scheduling, patient records).
- Guide students through practical exercises in a simulated clinical environment, preparing them for real-world patient care.
- Develop and administer quizzes, exams, and practical assessments to measure student readiness and growth.
- Provide encouragement, feedback, and individualized support, helping students succeed in their coursework and clinical skills.
- Maintain knowledge of healthcare trends and medical assisting best practices to ensure relevant, up-to-date instruction.
- Work closely with admissions, career services, and administrative staff to support students through their educational journey.
- Monitor and record attendance, make up, and grades.
. Lab Supervision & Practical Training:
- Oversee lab activities, allowing students to practice performing phlebotomy and EKGs, applying electrodes, and operating EKG machines.
- Provide feedback and coaching on techniques, safety protocols, and troubleshooting equipment issues.
Exam Preparation & Certification Guidance:
- Prepare students for Medical Assistant certification exams by covering required knowledge areas, skills assessments, and practice tests.
- Conduct exams and practical assessments to evaluate student readiness for certification.
- Assist students with the certification application process and provide resources for further exam preparation.
Course Planning & Curriculum Development:
- Develop and update lesson plans, course materials, and instructional resources that reflect best practices.
- Integrate a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, hands-on practice, simulations, and multimedia resources, to accommodate different learning styles.
- Ensure the curriculum aligns with accreditation standards, school objectives, and certification exam requirements.
Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring:
- Assess student performance through quizzes, exams, skills evaluations, and hands-on assessments in the lab.
- Provide constructive feedback on student progress, focusing on areas needing improvement and strengths.
- Keep accurate records of student attendance, grades, and skill development for reporting and assessment purposes
Classroom Management & Student Support:
- Create and maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom and lab environment conducive to learning.
- Support students by being accessible for questions, offering additional guidance, and providing individual assistance as needed.
- Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom culture that encourages active participation and teamwork.
Safety & Compliance Protocols:
o Teach and enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including infection
control, equipment sterilization, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
usage.
- Ensure students comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory guidelines for patient safety and confidentiality.
- Maintain and monitor lab equipment, reporting any issues and ensuring all tools and materials are in good working order.
Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a medical assistant.
- Previous experience in teaching, training, or mentoring (preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of both administrative and clinical medical assisting skills.
- Strong Communication Skills: Able to present information clearly and engage a diverse student audience.
