**Job Summary**
The Controls Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing automated systems and control processes to ensure efficient manufacturing operations. This role involves working with electrical, mechanical, and software systems to minimize downtime and improve productivity.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
- **Troubleshooting & Maintenance:** Diagnose and repair issues in electrical control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and related automation equipment.
- **Programming & Configuration:** Develop, modify, and optimize PLC and HMI programs for manufacturing processes.
- **System Upgrades:** Collaborate with engineering teams to implement new control technologies or upgrade existing systems.
- **Preventative Maintenance:** Conduct regular inspections and maintenance to prevent system failures.
- **Documentation:** Maintain detailed records of control system changes, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting procedures.
- **Panel Fabrication:** Build control panels according to specifications and configure relevant hardware.
- **Compliance:** Ensure all control systems comply with relevant safety and quality standards.
- **Collaboration:** Work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- **Training:** Provide technical support and training to production and maintenance personnel on control systems.
- **Additional Tasks:** Perform other related duties as assigned to support the team’s goals.
**Required Skills & Abilities**
- Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting PLCs (Omron, Mitsubishi, etc.) and HMIs (Red Lion).
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, schematics, and wiring diagrams (AutoCAD).
- Familiarity with industrial networks and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
**Education & Experience**
- Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with industrial control systems and automation.
- Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Knowledge of safety standards and protocols (e.g., OSHA, NFPA).
**Physical Requirements**
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing, walking, and climbing stairs for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces or at heights when required.
- Prolonged periods of working with electrical tools and systems.
