Join Our Team as an Underground Fiber Technician (Hutchinson/Buhler, KS Area):

We're seeking a motivated and resilient Underground Fiber Technician to join our team in the Hutchinson and Buhler, Kansas area. This role is crucial to expanding IdeaTek's fiber optic network, bringing vital connectivity to local communities. If you're someone who enjoys a challenging outdoor environment, possesses a strong work ethic, and excels at independent problem-solving, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

What You'll Do:

• Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, excavator, etc.) and hand tools to install underground fiber optic infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and overcome obstacles during construction.
• Maintain equipment and ensure a safe work environment.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively.
• Lift and move heavy materials, including vaults and pedestals.
• Dig trenches, pull fiber/conduit, and utilize various construction tools.
• Drive and maneuver large trucks and trailers.

Experience/Knowledge Required:

• 2 years of work experience
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
• Available to work on call as needed for emergency tasks
• Ability to work outdoors in various conditions
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
• Ability to dig holes/trenches with a shovel
• Ability to pull fiber/conduit by hand.
• Ability to use boor machine, plow, excavator, backhoe, ground compactor, and concrete saw.
• Ability to pull and back, a large truck and trailer.
• Ability to complete a fit for duty physical fitness test.

Preferences:

• Working knowledge of construction
• Knowledgeable of reading and understanding electronic and paper design work prints/maps of work and installation specification documents
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in underground construction or telecommunications
• CDL is preferred
