POSITION SUMMARY
US Valve / Champion Valves, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Intern to join our team in Wilmington, NC or Linthicum, MD. This internship offers hands-on experience in the design, testing, and optimization of valve systems and components. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in mechanical design and manufacturing processes, as well as a passion for solving engineering challenges.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Engineering Intern will be an integral member of the team, responsible for reverse engineering legacy designs of check valves, validating compliance with internal and national design standards, implementing design improvements, and preparing the necessary drawings and specifications for production. These responsibilities will include :
Reverse Engineering : Perform reverse engineering of check valves using handheld measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, and gages.
Drafting and 3D Modeling : Assist in creating detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of valve components and assemblies using CAD software (Autodesk and / or Solidworks).
Product Applications : Collaborate with the engineering team to analyze and optimize product applications for various industries and customer requirements.
Design Validation and Testing : Support the validation of new and existing designs through performance testing, data collection, and analysis.
Failure Analysis : Investigate product failures and contribute to root cause analysis to recommend corrective actions.
Process Improvement : Identify opportunities for efficiency and quality improvements in manufacturing and assembly processes.
Engineering Calculations : Perform calculations to support the design, sizing, and performance evaluation of valves and related systems.

QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Current college student, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, who is enrolled and in good standing at a North Carolina or Maryland higher education institution. Sophomore standing by start of internship at minimum, majoring or minoring in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace, Drafting or related discipline.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent.
