The Systems Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining Microsoft Operating Systems, specifically Active Directory administration. This role oversees the full hardware and software lifecycle for both server and client equipment, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability.
Key responsibilities include system patching, asset and license management, and infrastructure monitoring. The Systems Engineer also implements and maintains advanced monitoring tools, provides daily reports, and manages critical IT infrastructure components.
What Would You Really Do At IDI?
- Active Directory Administration: Manage and maintain Active Directory services, including user and group administration, Group Policy management, and domain services.
- System Management: Deploy, upgrade, repurpose, and decommission Windows-based systems while ensuring security and compliance.
- Patch & Update Deployment: Analyze and apply firmware, driver, and software updates across Windows environments.
- Performance & Monitoring: Monitor system capacity, availability, and performance, proactively addressing issues to optimize efficiency.
- Reporting & Dashboards: Generate and maintain daily performance reports and operational status dashboards.
- Asset & License Management: Maintain accurate inventory and ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
- Facilities & Infrastructure Support: Manage HVAC, generators, UPS, and PDUs to maintain critical IT infrastructure.
- Data & System Administration: Oversee data archiving processes and maintain tools that support business operations
- Support & On-Call Rotation: Provide support for IT-related issues and participate in an on-call rotation.

What We’re Looking For
- Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 3-5 years of hands-on experience with IT systems administration and support, including Active Directory.
- Operating Systems: Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Server and client operating systems.
- Scripting & Automation: Experience with Microsoft PowerShell for automation and system management.
- Hardware: Strong knowledge of server and workstation hardware.
- Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) is a plus
- Security & Compliance: A positive background check may be required.
Working Conditions
Hybrid - This role combines both an office environment and remote work. It requires the ability to unpack, move, and install computer equipment, with occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Participation in an on-call rotation is required, along with the possibility of occasional travel to IDI’s data center in the Rochester area.
