The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for the overall guest experience, employee work environment, and the achievement of financial targets within the scope of operations. This position oversees landscaping, park cleanliness, and overall building maintenance.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Supervisory Duties:
  • Assist the Maintenance Director & Manager with the daily maintenance and appearance of the park grounds, including landscaping, sanitation, trash services, some general maintenance, pest control, snow removal, inclement weather clean up, and, in some cases, building upkeep.
  • Lead by example, attitude, and as a representation of Idlewild’s core values
  • Act as an approachable mentor and coach to all assigned team members
  • Ensure compliance with company and industry best practices, policies, and procedures to create a safe and productive environment for colleagues and guests.
  • Become knowledgeable of performing the essential duties of all grounds positions and backfill these positions when needed
  • Participate in all aspects of supervision of assigned employees, including hiring, orientation, training, performance coaching, and discipline.
  • Ensure that all required meal and other breaks are being given in accordance with Pennsylvania State law
  • Assist with team scheduling and timekeeping activities

Departmental Duties:
  • Ensure compliance with all local and state health regulations pertaining to the Grounds Department, including daily inspections and required state documentation.
  • Provide intense focus on quality, standards, sanitation and safety, while always maintaining areas at inspection readiness
  • Propose strategies and implement best practices for landscape and park maintenance activities, to improve efficiencies, reduce cost, and maintain highest safety standards
  • Manage the daily maintenance and appearance of the park grounds
  • Ensure that the Grounds department is utilizing and maintaining equipment properly (Lawn mowers, golf carts, weed eaters, leaf blowers, pressure washers, forklifts, etc.)
  • Manage landscaping projects and initiatives and ensure that these are completed in a timely manner.
  • When applicable, lead projects related to park set up, tear down, and winterization.
  • Participate in routine audits of ground, building and restroom cleanliness
  • Continuously monitors outdoor spaces for safety hazards (e.g. loose branches, tripping hazards, etc.)
  • Escalate guest concerns to the appropriate leadership channels in a timely manner
  • All other duties assigned by leadership

Language: Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.
Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred; Equivalent work experience will also be considered
  • College or technical degree preferred but not required
  • At least 3 to 5 years of previous landscaping, maintenance or related work experience

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with Pennsylvania Child Labor Laws
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, open to close
  • Must be available to work at the park during non-operating hours, including the hours prior to the park opening each day.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate motorized vehicles and equipment
  • Must display a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and convey a professional presence in compliance with all park guidelines
  • Ability to safely and effectively use landscaping equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, and weed whackers, whenever needed
  • Must possess exceptional customer service skills, with an ability to resolve questions, problems, issues, and concerns in a positive and professional manner

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, twist, kneel, bend, or squat for long periods of time
  • Ability to remain on feet for majority of the workday
  • Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to tolerate high-decibel noise related to power equipment
  • Ability to consistently use hands to grasp, control, move objects/tools
  • Ability to see details of objects that are more than a few feet away

Working Conditions:
  • Frequent exposure to the variable outside temperatures, including high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice, and other weather conditions
  • Subject to frequent repetitive motion, high noise levels, motorized equipment, power tools, and machinery
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and requests that may require reprioritization of activities
