Job Summary :
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Authorization Representative to join our team. This position is responsible for obtaining insurance eligibility and benefits information, as well as securing the necessary authorizations for services. You will communicate with both the physician's office and insurance companies to verify information and ensure services are covered. In addition, you will collaborate with Utilization Review staff to confirm authorizations align with services needed and may assist in estimating service costs and patient responsibilities. Essential Job Duties :
- Obtain insurance eligibility and benefit information using various phone and online resources.
- Secure appropriate authorizations and notify insurance companies of patient arrivals as needed.
- Collaborate with Utilization Review staff and / or physicians' offices to ensure eligibility and authorization requirements are completed on time.
- Communicate with nursing and / or billing staff when changes affect reimbursement or patient billing.
- Correct patient records to prevent billing issues and ensure accuracy for reimbursement.
- Refer patients with questionable insurance coverage to Eligibility Counselors (e.g., out of network, underinsured, etc.).
- Review insurance eligibility responses and other reports, working with physicians and patients to resolve issues and prevent billing delays.
- Maintain a satisfactory level of performance and adhere to workload standards.
- Estimate service costs using ICD-9 or CPT codes and calculate patient responsibility based on insurance benefits.
- Assist in training new employees in account preparation and review functions.
