GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Lead RAs, Dorm head, Director of Campus Life and the Director of Summer Programs, Residential Assistants (RAs) are responsible for providing a healthy and enjoyable summer experience for students ages 13-17, while also maintaining the safety and integrity of Idyllwild Arts and its campus. RAs assist in day-to-day campus duties, such as studio/classroom set-ups, preparing venues for performances and culmination events, or light maintenance and grounds duties to ensure the safety of program participants. RAs are responsible for making certain their assigned students are present at all meals and classes, and are active in afternoon and evening activities when able. They are also to ensure that students are safely in their dorms each night at curfew. RAs must be able to maintain a supportive yet disciplined environment for the students, ensuring their safety and happiness while attending Idyllwild Arts Summer Program. Those who are best suited for this position are self-starters, good listeners, inventive, quick on their feet, able to strike the proper balance between friendship and discipline, and, most importantly, are a team player. Due to the nature of the Summer Programs, RAs may be expected to work split shifts and may be offered overtime when necessary.
SPECIFIC DUTIES

Implement and enforce all Student Life rules and regulations, while providing a positive environment for students. Communicate behavior problems to the Dorm Head/Parents and assist in positive resolution.

Carry out assigned duties which may include, but not limited to - pool duty, snack and water duty, stage crew assistance, ushering for performances and culmination events, facilities preparation, instrument moving, dorm furniture moving, studio/rehearsal assistance, and excursion chaperones.

Participate in daily meetings to plan Student Life activities and complete duty assignments. Meet with Dorm Staff and Students Services teams when necessary to discuss problems, concerns, discipline and rewards.

Plan, organize and supervise all out-of-class time for residential students, including weekend recreational activities.

Organize and maintain dormitories to allow for safe, healthy living and a positive atmosphere for growth.

Planning and leading hall bonding activities. Be active while on-duty – socialize with, eat meals with, and engage with students at events, be a presence in common spaces.

Monitor campus and classroom/studio safety, report to lead staff.

Supervise sleeping hours for students (on Lead RA’s days off)

Driving duties of campus vehicles which may include driving on-campus errands, town runs, evacuation drills, or student field trips.

Other duties may be assigned by the Dorm Head, Director of Campus Life and the Director of Summer Programs.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate, with at least one year of college, at least one year of experience as a staff member in a residential camp setting with children ages 13-18 and a strong desire to work with children of this age group. Positive, flexible person with excellent ability to communicate. Arts, crafts, and performing experience in music, dance or theater is desirable. Willingness to obtain a California driver license and drive campus vehicles for work purposes. Must have the ability to lift heavy objects and perform light maintenance duties.
DATES & PAY
Residential Assistants work from June 8–July 18, 2025 with meals and housing included. Residential Assistants’ pay ranges between $17 and $22 per hour based on experience and qualifications. Summer staff members are classified as employees by the IRS and the State of California so federal and state taxes are withheld from all paychecks.
