What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children’s Summer Day Camp Aide position at Idyllwild Community Center Recreation Program?
Idyllwild Community Center Summer Day Camp is looking for Aide/Youth Leader ("counselor") for its 8 week summer program. The camp runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, June 9 - August 1 ( excluding Friday, Fourth of July). There will be three training/prep days, 1 in May (TBD) and 2 in June (Thursday and Friday, June 5 & 6).
The position is in the mountain town of Idyllwild, Ca. so you'd be driving up the mountain on your scheduled days. Obtaining Live scan Fingerprinting is a Federal and State Requirement and clearance is necessary before start date. This is a great opportunity for those who are looking to further their studies in student and camp leadership, education and recreation. Candidates should feel confident leading a group, keeping control of a process and able to speak clearly.
Job Summary: Leading, preparing and executing artsy and fun crafts, activities, games and events for camp kids ages 5-14. Perform routine tasks and duties under supervision related to ICC 2022 Summer Day Camp. Perform routine tasks and duties under supervision related to recreation programs such as Kids Korner, Kids Kamp, various camp related activities, etc.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and Assist with child day camp crafts, activities, games, field trips, snacks and general cleaning.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, orderly learning environment, including necessary housekeeping duties.
- Monitor check-in and check-out of program participants.
- Interact with children ages 5 through 14 years.
- Inform and maintain rules and regulations of the Idyllwild Community Center Kids Korner Summer Day Camp and at all times lead by example.
- Maintain professional attitude; demonstrate professional approach to problem solving.
- Assist in setting up rooms, crafts, games and restoring room and spaces to original state.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 15 years or older.
- Must be able to provide valid hiring identification.
- Must pass all health, safety, and criminal/fingerprint checks.
- Must understand and speak fluent English (Spanish is a plus).
- Must be able to initiate, lead, and work with fellow staff to complete crafts, activities while maintaining positive attitude in a relaxed learning environment.
- Detail-oriented, self-starter and team player, able to work with and relate well to children, parents, and staff in a mature and sensitive manner.
- Able to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Able to lift up to 40lbs.
