What are the responsibilities and job description for the Appeals Specialist position at IEM?
IEM is looking for a Full Time- Appeals Specialist that can be responsible for reviewing claims applications for quality, comprehensiveness, documenting, and communicating with applicants as needed within the functional area.

Primary Location:
- Candidates can originate from anywhere in the United States but must be willing to relocate to New Mexico.
- Preference will be given to candidates already residing in New Mexico.
- Your workplace will be in an office environment and remote from a personal location and will depend on the need of the project.
- Manage individual workload, productivity, and communications that enable accurate, efficient and policy compliant processing.
- Maintain accurate and organized claim files, ensuring all necessary documentation is readily available.
- Understand program needs, policy, departmental process flows and standard operating procedures.
- Review records for inconsistencies, investigate, and resolve issues with analysis and customer service skills. Where problems arise, log support issues, communicate, resolve and escalate according to defined standard operating procedures.
- Communicate effectively with claimants, providing updates on the status of their claims and addressing their questions and concerns.
- Contribute to team success with effective communication and sound decision making and suggest procedural improvements.
- Respond to questions and requests professionally and in a timely manner.
- Responsible for reviewing more complex cases than the average which requires more specified skills and knowledge in the different functional areas of the program.
- May have more communication with management and applying program rules and regulations as well as responsibilities with claimants as it relates to the functional area.
- Other duties as assigned and based on changing scope of work.
- Three (3) years of experience providing customer service and/or clerical work.
- Ability to perform the job functions with limited supervision, while providing excellent customer service.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills, ability to multitask and work independently.
- Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills; ability to quickly learn new software applications.
- Ability to acquire and implement a working knowledge of applicable rules and regulations.
- Ability to meet the necessary qualifications and suitability requirements to obtain and maintain a FEMA badge, which may include background checks and security clearances as required by FEMA.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university within a relevant field such as business, communications, economics, or leadership.
- Experience with housing grant programs
- Familiarity with Finance/mortgage terminology
- Three (3) years of mortgage, loan, housing, or claims experience.
- Office Locations: Office locations are often either owned by the client we work with or by IEM. All candidates are expected to follow any rules and regulations of the office in which they are required to work for that project.
- Remote Work: All remote work environments require the ability to maintain minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, as well as a ping rate of 100 ms or less during working hours, regardless of the type and number of devices using your Internet connection. You must also have account privileges and access to your Internet service provider account during working hours for the purposes of maintaining the Internet connection, if needed.
- Starting salary based on location and experience: $27.40 to $32.21 per hour.
