Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and collaborative Payroll Administrator to lead our small but mighty in-house payroll team. In this role, you will manage all aspects of payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and seamless collaboration with other departments. You will play a critical role in maintaining organizational compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. Essential components of this job is expertise in school compensation models and STRS and PERS retirement systems.
The incumbent is expected to assist with preparation, oversight and review of all phases of payroll; respond to complex payroll problems and computational questions; ensure compliance with mandated requirements/laws; and maintain confidentiality. The incumbent will work cooperatively with team members and others to enable the departments to provide the highest level of service possible. Creativity and productivity are encouraged and valued. The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the Guiding Principles of the organization.
The Payroll Administrator performs a broad range of complex duties to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll calculations and payroll, tax and reporting submissions. This position will work closely with the Director of Accounting and the payroll team to manage critical deadlines and ensure a high level of accuracy and professionalism under pressure.
This is a full-time office based position. As a Payroll Administrator you will be part of a great in-house payroll team serving three charter schools and over 350 educators across the state of California.
Comments and Other Information
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: no minimum requirement
- Credentials/Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or comparable preferred
- Experience: 5 years in payroll processing and 2 years in management
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of payroll process and 2 years of employee management experience. Desired skills include expert knowledge of payroll laws and calculations, in-depth knowledge of CalSTRS and CalPERS retirement program requirements, Microsoft Office or Google suite, great communication and analytical skills, and data entry speed and accuracy. Prior experience working in a California public education entity and/or fund accounting system is also highly desirable.
