Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Calibration Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for optimizing engine performance, efficiency, and emissions through the development, testing, and calibration of engine control systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in engine systems, data analysis, and calibration methodologies, with a passion for delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine engine calibration parameters to meet performance, fuel economy, emissions, and drivability targets for gaseous fueled engines and generator sets.
- Conduct testing and validation of industrial engines and generator sets using dynamometers, test benches, and load banks.
- Analyze test data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and recommend calibration adjustments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, customer service and quality control, to ensure seamless integration of calibration solutions.
- Utilize calibration tools (e.g., Woodward PG Toolkit, EControls ECOM, or similar) to adjust engine maps and control strategies.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., EPA, CARB emissions standards).
- Document calibration processes, test results, and technical findings for internal records and audits.
- Support prototype development and production phases by providing calibration expertise.
- Stay updated on advancements in engine technology, calibration techniques, and relevant software tools.
Specific Qualifications
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in engine calibration, engine development, or a similar role.
- Proficiency with calibration tools such as Woodward PG Toolkit, EControls ECOM, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of gaseous engine systems (e.g., combustion, turbocharging, fuel systems, governing systems, exhaust aftertreatment).
- Hands-on experience with dynamometer testing.
- Experience with data acquisition, analysis tools and emissions analyzers (e.g., CANalyzer, Taylor DynPro2, ECOM Portable analyzer).
- Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline.
- Experience with industrial engines in oil and gas, and power generation applications.
- Knowledge of emissions testing and regulatory compliance (e.g., 40 CFR Part 60, Subpart JJJJ and 40 CFR Part 1048)
- Proficiency in writing technical literature.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a lab or test environment, including occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to travel to test sites or customer locations as needed (up to 20% travel).
