Working with leadership, technology, maintenance, operations, engineering, safety, and quality, the Project Leader-II is accountable to the site and Regional Engineering Manager or Site Engineering Manager for capital projects implementation, status reporting, and optimal utilization of site team/external engineering in compliance with site and corporate work processes.
- Accountable for overall Site Minor Project performance, including safety, operability, quality, budget, and schedule.
- Disciplined approach to executing IFF capital portfolio using the Minor Project Process (MPP).
- Disciplined approach to executing plans, and tracking progress of projects through design phases from inception to handover.
- Learning to provide direction and vision to the project team.
- Supports Readiness for Operations activities.
- Performs project close-out activities including operational handover archiving, and financial project close.
- Works with internal site customers in areas such as technology, maintenance, operations, engineering, safety, and quality.
- Works with high-performing teams from an external engineering partner.
- Provides monthly Cost Control and updates Forecast according to real progress vs plans.
- Provides detailed status reports for the Monthly Capital Connect Meetings and EcoSys Dashboards
- Coordinates Basic Data development and identifies when to engage Process Engineers, Operations Manufacturing Technology, and other functions as required.
- Drives design deliverables for projects.
- Drives safety in the design and execution of projects.
- Ensures all the required Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) reviews are held, and Process Safety Management and Process Hazard Analysis requirements and recommendations are incorporated into design and installation.
- Leads the team in identifying non-capital alternatives or lower capital options, evaluating scope options, conducting risk analyses, and developing mitigation plans.
- Engages early and independently with Sourcing organization during FEL to align on Contracting and Procurement strategies.
- Drives the use of preferred vendors, suppliers, and alliance partners to meet with the Project Quality and Cost Effectiveness.
- Ensures site personnel is staffed and prepared for commissioning, pre-start-up reviews, and start-up of the new facilities, including training, procedure updates, maintenance records updates, qualification plans, etc.
- Ensures schedules are aligned with supply chain and operations/maintenance needs, such as Turn-Arounds (TARs), to determine when outages are available if necessary.
- Accountable for the safe execution of all field construction activities leveraging, when needed, Construction Management through Engineering contractors.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of Project Quality Plans, including auditing work processes and deliverables for compliance, and for meeting agreed-upon project quality requirements and expectations, including operability scorecard metrics following return to operations.
- Develop project schedules to maintain adequate team efforts in keeping projects on track.
- Champions the “no change” concept and ensures only changes consistent with the business and project objectives are approved. Demonstrates excellent communication when changes occur.
- Provides monthly Cost Control and updates Forecast according to real progress vs plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering: Chemical, Mechanical or related engineering field.
- 2-5 years of working experience with a successful track record.
- An understanding of GMP design, FS/FQ requirements, Food Systems practices, and design is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, communications, team skills & ability to collaborate.
- Ability to lead multiple projects/tasks and drive projects to completion with strong operability to support reliable, high-quality production.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required and experience with Microsoft Project, SAP, and/or other project management tools preferred.
- Construction Safety Rules & Regulations (OSHA 510 or equivalent) preferred.
- Experience or knowledge of Spray Drying and separation technology a plus.
- Ability to quickly understand significant assumptions or uncertainties within programs and accurately communicate this to multiple audiences and drive mitigation actions as needed.
