This role is hybrid with at least 2 days each week from home/remote

Title: Packaging Engineer
The ideal candidate has excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills. This
role will communicate technical information to non-technical audiences. A self- starter who is
organized, collaborative and able to problem solve will excel in this role as they work in a fast-
paced environment with a variety of team members at all levels of the organization.
This Is What You’ll Do
The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of all packaging
materials: including custom racks, standard baskets, totes/bins, and expendable packaging.
A clear understanding of material flow processes into, within, and out of all Rivian facilities.
This position falls under the Logistics, Supply Chain umbrella.
Identify and develop relationships with top quality global packaging and material
handling suppliers.
Support the Company’s mission, vision, values and goals
Responsible for implementing, improving and maintaining the packaging standards
for inbound components and raw material
Work with tier 1 and 2 level suppliers to assure conformance to packaging standards
Designs and develops protective containers, dunnage, unique shipping racks and
expendable domestic and international
Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to determine physical
requirements, quality, safety and materials needs
Determines cost and feasibility of expendable versus returnable packaging
Determines container costs, movement costs and feasibility limitations
Lead project teams of significant scope including other engineering colleagues
Coordinate vendor and/or colleague work assignments on packaging projects
Organize and lead cross-functional work teams
Responsible for adhering to all internal and OSHA required safety procedures in
performing daily work activities
Maintain a positive working relationship with all levels of the organization
Adherence to all company policies and procedures
Work with customer / supplier contacts to gain approval for packaging
Work with manufacturing both internally and externally to determine packaging

This Is What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering or equivalent experience
3-5 years in packaging experience required, Automotive Packaging experience
(preferred)
Knowledge of / experience in packaging testing (ISTA, ASTM, UN)
PFEP and process flow mapping experience
Cost modelling experience – close working relationship with Purchasing and Logistics
Proficient in Microsoft Office software
SolidWorks, Catia – modeling experience; basic manipulations
