STUDENT AND FAMILY SUPPORT COUNSELOR
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in School Counseling and/or Social Work, Colorado Department of Education License
with appropriate endorsement.
JOB GOAL
The goal of this position is to provide mental health support and services to students in Tier 3 intervention
at both Ignacio and Bayfield secondary schools. The social emotional interventionist will seek to improve
student disposition and increase academic success in supporting children through screening, assessment,
individual and/or group support and/or skill building services. Be able to work with families as a student
advocate, address attendance issues and social/emotional needs of students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Demonstrates knowledge of multi-tiered systems of supports and standards for mental health,
behavior, and safety Participation in the process of Response to Intervention.
• Demonstrates understanding and commitment to equity, innovation and engagement of culturally
diverse and traditionally underserved populations
• Collaborates with teachers and other staff in areas of student need, e.g. behavior management,
crisis, mental/social issues, attendance, etc.
• Demonstrates ability to develop positive relationships with the community and professional groups
or committees
• Increases parent involvement in the schools through networking, parent training, phone contacts
and home visits.
• Demonstrates expertise with state and federal school laws, budget, and district policies and
procedures, especially pertaining to safety, discipline, mental health, and students with disabilities •
Demonstrates ability to communicate successfully with professional staff, parents and students •
Provides individual and/or group support and/or skill building with students experiencing mental
health or social issues.
• Has knowledge of and connections to community agencies and resources which provide services
and support to students and families
• Demonstrates superior ability in problem-solving and conflict resolution
• Keeps Documentation, which includes but is not limited to, record keeping, progress notes, data
collection for progress toward goals on IEPs, RtI plans and student demographic information. •
Collaborates with staff, students, parents and community members to establish and achieve district
goals and priorities.
• Helps site and district teams, school administrators and staff to plan, implement and monitor
services to students that are aligned with research and best practice
• Provides direct services, facilitation, consultation, or other assistance as necessary to support
positive outcomes
• Works in partnership with colleagues in the social, emotional & behavior arena to develop and
implement activities and services through the grant program
• Supports the development of technology systems to support mental health prevention, intervention
and outcome measurement
• Promotes a focus on equitable and relevant services for underserved or specific subgroup
populations through ongoing data analysis and program review
• Maintains a high level of credibility and integrity for the leadership of district programs and
services.
• Ensures consistent and timely response by school and district teams to student and family issues
including adherence to legal requirements
• Provides supervision to identified staff who provide consultation or direct services to students and
families
• Develops and implement ongoing professional development for staff related to effective social,
emotional, or behavioral programs and interventions
• Assists building administrators, as requested, in the performance evaluation of mental health
providers or other staff
• Provides leadership and support for district mental health staff or PLC groups as requested. •
Provide mental health training to building level staff as needed
• Promotes a positive and goal-oriented team culture
• Splits the time equally between the Ignacio and Bayfield School Districts will have a travel
expectation
LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: School calendar for secondary counselor.
SALARY: Based on experience and education with additional compensation during the summer months.
SUPERVISION: As designated by the Superintendents.
Salary : $53,260 - $60,423
