Overview :
We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Senior Vice President (SVP) of Safety and Compliance to lead the strategic direction and operational oversight of safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management across the organization. In this executive role, you will shape and influence the safety and compliance culture across all levels of the company, ensuring adherence to industry regulations (EPA, OSHA, DOT) and developing innovative strategies to mitigate risk and enhance safety standards. You will be responsible for setting the tone at the top, working with executive leadership to establish a robust safety and compliance framework, and driving the company’s long-term vision for operational excellence in safety, regulatory affairs, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities :
Executive Leadership & Strategic Vision : Lead the development and execution of the company’s overarching safety and compliance strategy. Partner with senior executives to align safety goals with business objectives, shaping the company’s safety culture and risk management practices at the national level.
Risk Management & Mitigation : Spearhead a comprehensive risk management program to proactively identify and address potential risks and compliance gaps. Champion safety leadership across all levels of the company, ensuring safety measures are integrated into all operations.
Team Leadership & Talent Development : Build and lead a high-performing safety and compliance leadership team. Provide strategic guidance, mentorship, and professional development to key personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability in safety and compliance.
Regulatory Compliance & Oversight : Maintain expert-level knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks, ensuring the company consistently exceeds safety and regulatory standards across all operational units. Serve as the senior subject matter expert (SME) on safety and compliance matters, driving innovation in compliance processes.
Safety Performance & Metrics Leadership : Develop and implement a system for monitoring and reporting on safety performance metrics. Provide strategic insights to the executive team, offering solutions to improve safety outcomes and ensuring company-wide accountability for safety performance.
Safety and Compliance Innovation : Drive the evolution of the company’s safety and compliance practices through technology integration, data-driven decision-making, and industry-leading best practices. Lead initiatives to advance the company’s safety programs, from training to operational protocols, ensuring scalability and effectiveness across diverse regions and business units.
Crisis Management & Post-Incident Oversight : Lead the strategic response to safety incidents, working cross-functionally to conduct root cause analysis, develop corrective actions, and enhance preventative measures. Maintain a comprehensive post-incident review process to continually refine operational practices and minimize future risk.
Safety Culture Transformation : Cultivate and maintain a top-tier safety culture through company-wide initiatives that engage all employees. Lead high-level safety committees and corporate-wide safety initiatives, including safety summits, workshops, and collaborative cross-functional safety events.
Strategic Partnerships & External Relations : Build and maintain relationships with key industry regulators, partners, and stakeholders. Serve as the organization’s liaison on all matters related to safety and compliance with external bodies, including government agencies and industry associations.
Continuous Improvement & Change Management : Lead the implementation of continuous improvement processes across safety and compliance operations. Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to optimize safety processes, reduce incidents, and enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science) or equivalent experience. A Master’s degree or industry certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, CSP) is highly preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in safety, compliance, or risk management, with a proven track record of leading large-scale safety initiatives and improving organizational safety culture.
Extensive experience managing compliance with EPA, OSHA, DOT, and other relevant regulations across diverse operations.
Strong background in leading and mentoring cross-functional teams, with exceptional skills in executive communication, strategic planning, and organizational leadership.
Proven ability to influence and engage at all levels of the organization, from senior executives to field teams, in fostering a culture of compliance and safety excellence.
Demonstrated ability to innovate and drive results, utilizing data and analytics to shape strategy and improve safety outcomes.
Strong business acumen, with experience managing budgets, reporting to executives, and influencing key stakeholders on critical safety and compliance matters.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build relationships both internally and externally.
