What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director of Engineering position at II-VI Incorporated?

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Provide engineering / technical leadership on the advanced fiber optics development of the Coherent’s datacom business unit, with special emphasis on the high density datacom optics, such as CPO, NPO, and optical engines.
Provide engineering leadership and work together with corporate technology team, marketing team, and multiple function groups / design centers to develop new product roadmap and define technology development strategy.
Drive the development of new technology platforms for the next generation of advanced optical transceiver products.
Direct advanced product development and drive the NPI and customer qualification process for successfully commercialization.
Provide leadership and as key interface with key suppliers, both internal and external, of critical components, such as laser / modulator, packaging, and key ASICs, on the development of advanced components for the next gen transceivers.
Understand and influence the industry direction / trend through interaction with customers and various standard bodies and MSA groups.

Education & Experience

Ph D or Master degree in Physics / EE / ME or related field.

15 years of experience in optical transceiver product design and development. Direct experiences in silicon photonic and CPO development are desired.

Proven track records on leading the design and development of the advanced fiber optics for both datacom and telecom applications and successful customer qualifications.

Technical leadership and management experiences in managing a diverse engineering team.

Deep knowledge in datacom optical technologies. Deep understanding of customer requirement for both current and future products.

Demonstrable ability to build the engineering team, including hiring, developing, and retaining the key engineering talents.

Manage and motivate the engineering teams across multiple functions to work together closely to maintain Coherent’s leadership in the advanced datacom optics development.

Strong technical background and ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with customers, engineers, designers, and stakeholders.

Strategic thinker with a proven ability to integrate and lead diverse corporate cultures while delivering results.

Expertise in user research, data analysis, and product strategy.

Strong organizational, human resource management, and planning skills.

International business experience.

Work effectively with other members of Coherent Corp

Working Conditions

Travel of roughly 15% will be required to Coherent Sites and Customer visits.
