Import Agent (Ocean & Air)
I.K. Hofmann USA is seeking a full-time Import Agent to join our import team. The Import Agent is responsible for processing documentation required by US Customs and Border Protection for entry of goods into the US on behalf of importers. Industry experience is required, and compensation will depend upon that experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide impeccable customer service
- Maintain and keep current all customs compliance documentation
- Perform track and trace functions with carriers and ports.
- Monitoring detention and demurrage cutoffs, escalating to management when necessary.
- Arrange both delivery and the invoicing of the import account for services rendered
- Mandatory daily correspondence with overseas and domestic agents, as well as airlines, steamship lines, and co-loaders
- Work closely with other departments to deliver high level of service to customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Report all issues to customers and management affecting clearance and delivery in a timely manner in writing or verbally
- Reporting freight discrepancies to management
- Ensure that all files contain all necessary document copies
- Has at least 2 years of experience with Import/ Export.
Essential functions:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Occasionally move about inside the office to access invoices, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a computer, calculator, copier, and printer.
- Ability to work with demanding deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Must be detail oriented, thorough and accurate. Must have proven analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to establish priorities and accomplish multiple tasks, must be organized
- Work effectively via phone, fax, e-mail. Good planning and organization skills; ability to multitask and be a self-starter
Work Environment:
- Office Setting - Working with others
- Occasionally work in extremely bright or dim lighting conditions.
Requirements:
- Education: GED/High School desired Experience
- Solid knowledge of domestic and international geography including countries, major cities and ocean ports along with basic knowledge of U.S. Regulatory Laws
Shift hours & Payrate:
Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm
Payrate $20- $24 an hour
