SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs is a key leadership position for supporting and fostering a positive and growth-focused team atmosphere that contributes to and fosters student success. This position will work closely with the Dean of Academic Affairs, faculty, adjunct faculty, College library staff, as well as cross-departmentally.
The Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs oversees the following divisions: Instructional Programming (Academic and Career & Technical Education), Workforce Development, Tuzzy Consortium Library, and Education Technology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Dean with the day-to-day work within the Academic Affairs department; Apprise and advise the Dean on daily operations of the Academic Affairs division.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
- Supervise current adjunct faculty, including onboarding, supporting course management, and engaging in regular evaluation processes; Recruit and hire adjunct faculty as needed.
- Supervise the Director of the College and local community library and work with library staff on building academic resources and supports.
- Support the Dean of Academic Affairs and faculty by managing and assisting with degree and course assessment; institute and model best practices on assessment with all faculty in conjunction with the Dean of Academic Affairs.
- Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Affairs, assist with accreditation activities and compliance, and help continue to build a culture of data and data-informed decision-making.
- Engage as a grant project director and oversight of various Academic Affairs grants, as assigned.
- Coach and/or mentor faculty, adjunct faculty and staff as directed by the Dean.
- Work with Dean of Academic Affairs to review, develop, and implement instructional policies and procedures; assures compliance of institutional wide policies.
- Ensure clear, frequent, and effective communication with faculty, staff, students, and other institutional stakeholders.
- Provide and prepare data, presentations, and reports as requested.
- Collaborate with Student Services to strengthen student recruitment, advising, and retention activities.
- Attend academic and community events, as needed.
- Serve as Acting Dean of Academic Affairs in the absence of the Dean.
- Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Skilled in data analysis; demonstrated ability to analyze and systematically compile technical and statistical information.
- Experience managing and supervising staff and faculty.
- Experience coordinating and promoting distance delivery education.

- Critical thinking and situational analysis; Comfortable with ambiguity and new situations.

- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment that is located in rural Alaska (off the road system).
- Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs within the college, demonstrating a thorough understanding of community and tribal college dynamics.
- Ability to travel periodically for professional meetings or development – may be in small plane to remote villages
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
- Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
- Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
- Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
- Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE [Required]:
- Master’s degree or above.
- Minimum three years of demonstrated teaching experiences at the instructor level or above.
- Minimum two years of academic administration experience.
- Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:
- Minimum of one year with developing and/or managing micro-credential programs.
- Accreditation experience in a higher education institutional setting.
- PhD or equivalent terminal degree.
- Valid driver’s license.
