WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 8:30pm - 5:00pm


COMPENSATION: $68,333.10 - $90,325.85/year Benefits, Exempt, Faculty Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Assistant Professor of Education is responsible for developing and overseeing the Iñupiaq Early Learning program leading to an Associate’s degree in the field of early childhood education.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage Iñupiaq Early Learning Program and deliver program relevant instruction.
  • Deliver college-level instruction in the early childhood education field.
  • Develop and implement early childhood/elementary education and related curricula as appropriate.
  • Prepare and maintain updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.
  • Assess and develop curriculum to reflect current and anticipated instructional needs and workforce trends.
  • Utilize current and innovative technological tools in instruction.
  • Recruit and supervise adjunct faculty as needed.
  • Assist Iḷisaġvik Recruiter with recruitment efforts for Iñupiaq Early Learning program.
  • Serve as academic advisor to program active students.
  • Evaluate student performance and submits appropriate grades and reports, as required.
  • Complete annual program assessment and data collection, necessary to remain compliant with accreditation standards.
  • Maintain active communication with program advisory committee.
  • Participate in professional development, as appropriate.
  • Complete reports and presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.
  • Travel periodically as required for professional development or student recruitment in outlying villages.
  • Maintain office hours, as required.
  • Actively participates in College and community service including serving on committees and task forces, curriculum planning, professional development, and assisting in the budgeting of assigned programs, and others.
  • Contributes toward the attainment of the goals and mission of the College.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.                                                      
  • Performs other related duties as required.



KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated professional teaching experience.
  • Computer and technology skills, as needed to perform duties.
  • Experience with multi-modal delivery.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Ability to travel periodically for professional meetings or development – may be in small plane to remote villages.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.



EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Required]:

  • Master’s degree in Education.
  • Minimum of one year undergraduate teaching experience and three years in early childhood/elementary education.


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

  • Doctorate degree in Education.
  • Three (3) years undergraduate teaching experience at the college level and three years in early childhood/elementary education. 
  • Valid driver’s license.

Retirement - Iḷisaġvik College is a public employer whose employees contribute to the State of Alaska, Public Employees Retirement System.

Health Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College is self-insured and Meritain Health is the health insurance third party administrator. Iḷisaġvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50/pay period for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

Life Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.

Additional supplemental or voluntary retirement, life insurance, disability benefits offered.
