Overview

Join our dynamic team as a Temporary Summer Intern, where you'll gain valuable hands-on experience in a professional setting.

llinois CancerCare has student summer intern positions available in the MOA department. Interested students will work up to 20 hours per week for 6-8 weeks. Our summer internship program is designed to give high school, undergraduate and medical school students a chance to gain experience in a healthcare facility.

Pay: $15.00/hrÂ

Illinois CancerCare offers the following benefits for temporary employees, subject to eligibility requirements: 401(k) retirement plan, Employee Assistance Program; & paid leave accrual (if applicable).

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain clinic flow of scheduled patients on provider's schedule by escorting patients to exam rooms.
  • Record vital signs, height, and weight in the Electronic Medical Record or "EMR"
  • Review and update patient medication list for each patient at every visit.
  • Prepare, clean and maintain exam rooms, treatment rooms and medical equipment.
  • Order and maintain adequate clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Review patient chart and ensure that lab reports are recorded in the patient's chart. May be required to request results from external facilities.
  • Work under the supervision of the Nursing staff in the treatment room to assist with patient needs going over medications list and updating in the patient chart.
  • Cleaning and stocking as needed.

Special Physical Requirements

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, stooping.

Safety Considerations/Typical Working Conditions

  • The employee has limited exposure to toxic substance and is expected to be familiar with the dangers and proper handling of such.
  • The employee is exposed to communicable diseases and other conditions common to the clinical environment.
  • Safety policies and good health practices are to be understood and observed.
  • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent contact with staff and patients.
  • Work may be repetitious, and in a high-stress environment.
  • Contact may involve dealing with angry and/or upset people.

Qualifications

  • Senior level high school student or College student preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
