The Maintenance Engineer position provides a variety of roles within the maintenance department required to support the planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution and documentation of plant maintenance and project functions. The Maintenance Engineer reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and interfaces with the maintenance, purchasing, production and shipping departments as required to provide the engineering and project support necessary to optimize equipment reliability and up-time and efficient plant project planning and implementation. The following responsibilities provide an overview of the Maintenance Engineer’s main functions but are not necessarily limited to these items.
- Provide engineering and project management oversight for plant modifications and projects from conception through implementation. This includes both capital and non-capital projects and includes the development of expenditure requests, project justification, construction oversight and documentation
- Assist Maintenance Management in the development of maintenance practices and procedures to ensure production capacity objectives are achieved.
- Provide engineering and troubleshooting support for the Maintenance Department.
- Assist in department technical training and development.
- Conduct equipment evaluations and develop appropriate maintenance and reliability programs.
- Assist in various planning activities of the Maintenance Department, including development of job plans, PM’s, outage plans and schedules and annual budgets.
- Assist with management of maintenance department overtime/callout documentation and tracking program.
- Assist Maintenance Department with development of JSA’s and safety meetings.
- Provide supervision as required to support maintenance department during outages, special projects, planned major repair work and alternating maintenance call-out coverage.
- Coordinate and develop root cause failure analysis program on critical equipment failures.
- Function as the leader and facilitator for plant defect elimination program. Evaluate problems that compromise HSE (Health, Safety & Environmental), reduce production, erode value and productivity or create waste. Develop solutions, justify required expenditures and implement corrective actions
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technology degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in cement or closely related heavy industry.
- Experience in project engineering and design, contract administration, preferred knowledge of cement manufacturing equipment, construction and maintenance methods, project scope development, budget preparation, purchasing process, and scheduling.
- Experience in preparation of bid packages and technical reporting.
- Computer literate and familiar with CMMS systems including setting up new equipment and researching and entering periodic equipment maintenance PM tasks and historical data.
- Computer software proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Projects scheduling software. Skills with Auto-Cad and drafting as required to provide miscellaneous drawings and sketches for implementation of plant special project modifications or improvements.
- Experience with equipment vibration monitoring and oil sampling programs and ability to utilize data for evaluating condition of equipment and corrective action required to provide reliability.
- Experience with root-cause failure analysis methods and good troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication skills written and spoken in English.
- Experience with supervision of maintenance/technical personnel and strong people skills are desired for this position.
- Must be a self-starter and have good organizational skills.
