As a leader in the Division of Student Success at Illinois Central College, the Coordinator- International Student plays a pivotal role in driving student success. This position is responsible for assisting with admissions processes, visa requirements, and immigration regulations for F-1 and M-1 students, as well as providing guidance on academic and personal matters. The coordinator fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment by organizing orientation programs, cultural events, and support services tailored to the unique needs of international students. Additionally, they collaborate with campus departments and external agencies to address legal, cultural, and academic challenges, promoting cross-cultural understanding and enhancing the overall educational experience for international students within the college community. Reporting to the Dean of Students, this role sets, executes, and assesses data-informed departmental objectives aligned with the division’s goals, as well as the college's mission and strategic priorities. This position must be available nights and weekends when needed.
- Provide general oversight leadership, support, and representation for the International Students department.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance staff effectiveness through teamwork, communication, professional development, and morale.
- Assist with the development and management of the departmental budget.
- Coordinate hiring processes for the student employee.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance the overall student experience and ensure student success.
- Improve processes, policies, and practices by researching emerging trends and best practices for the international student department.
- Serve as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for the Department of Homeland Security’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification and International Student Advisor for F-1 visa students.
- Update and maintain SEVIS records, ensuring student records are accurate and compliant within the Department of Homeland Security’s SEVIS system.
- Advise on various visa types (F, J, H, B, TN, L) for students, visiting scholars, and other college employees.
- Manage the international student lifecycle, overseeing acceptance, enrollment, retention, and completion, with a focus on immigration compliance through documented meetings and records.
- Counsel international students on personal, financial, academic, and other matters, making referrals as appropriate to ensure holistic support.
- Provide leadership for co-curricular international programs and events, including serving as the primary advisor for the International Club.
- Oversee study abroad programs, from recruitment to credit articulation, for students and faculty participating in ICC, ICISP, and other global partnerships.
- Serve as a surge student success advisor as needed.
- Duties as otherwise assigned.

- Bachelor’s degree preferably in International Studies or International Education.
- Experience in a higher education setting.
- Must meet qualifications for Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) as defined by the Department of Homeland Security.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Strong multi-tasking, organizational and prioritization skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- One year of direct experience in working with students who have F-1 and M-1 visa types in an academic setting working with USCIS policies and procedures and Department of Homeland Security policies and procedures.
- Fluency in at least one language in addition to English.
- Experience assisting with F-1 and M-1Visa processes.
Salary : $48,672 - $55,973
