What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Campus Security Officer position at Illinois Central College?
The Campus Security Officer is primarily responsible for protecting college personnel and property to provide a safe and secure campus environment. This is a part-time position and will be scheduled between the East Peoria, Peoria, and Pekin campuses.

- Patrol, inspect, and secure campus buildings and grounds.
- Investigate and report incidents and unusual conditions relating to the safety of the campus community.
- Respond immediately to emergency situations and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
- Perform actions necessary to ensure the safety and security of the campus and persons on the campus, in compliance with Illinois Compiled Statutes 720 ILCS 5/7-1 and 720 ILCS 5/7-3.
- Inspect and assist in the testing of fire control and alarm systems.
- Maintain effective working relationships with local police, fire and emergency services.
- Enforce college behavioral and parking regulations.
- Direct and control traffic, and provide crowd control and security during special events and as required.
- Investigate and report complaints and traffic crashes.
- Work shifts as assigned to provide daily 24-hour service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's license and satisfy requirements for insurability in operating college vehicles.
- Experience working in a security, law enforcement, military, customer service, education, or related field.
- Meets minimum requirements for hire as established under the Illinois Public Community College Act, (110 ILCS 805/3-42.1).
- Successful completion of Illinois Central College Police Department Field Training Program.
- Maintain composure under stressful and adverse conditions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.
- College degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or related field.
- Advanced security or law enforcement training.
