Chicago, IL – Metra is a nationally recognized commuter rail system serving the City of Chicago and surrounding suburbs. The system operates 242 stations on 11 rail lines and is the fourth busiest commuter rail system in the United States. Metra is seeking a progressive, innovative, experienced leader in human resources to serve as its next Chief Human Resources Officer. This position is a key member of the executive team and leads a comprehensive range of human resources services for a workforce of more than 3,400 employees. This person will lead all of Metra’s human resources programs including, but not limited to, talent acquisition and retention efforts, compensation and benefits administration, workforce / succession planning, employee development and diversity and inclusion initiatives. All labor relations and collective bargaining duties are managed by a separate department.
Responsibilities
- Direct Metra’s full complement of human resources services.
- Manage a department with an $8.4 million budget and 54 human resources professionals.
- Oversee direct reports including Executive Administrative Assistant; Senior Director for Organizational Development, Culture, and Special Projects; Director for EEO and Compliance; Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Director for HR Operations; Director for Compensation, Benefits, and HRIS; and Director for Talent Acquisition and Business Support.
- Ensure compliance with all Metra policies related to Code of Ethics, conflicts of interest, gratuities, revolving door prohibition, confidentiality of information, and compliance with federal and state ethics laws.
- Foster a culture of transparency and ensure that employees perform their job functions with honesty and integrity.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or, in lieu of a degree, any combination of education and experience that equals four years of human resources experience. In addition, candidates must have at least ten years of experience in human resources management and seven years of supervisory experience. Possession of a master’s degree and SPHR or SHRM-SCP credentials are highly valued.
Compensation
Starting salary range is $175,000 – $219,774, with an expected starting salary of $219,774, depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits package including pension, 401k, and 457 deferred compensation options. Residency in the City of Chicago is not required.
