The Nursing Skills/Simulation Lab Coordinator is a 10-month position overseeing the nursing skills lab in the clinical BSN program. The coordinator works collaboratively with the Nursing faculty to ensure safe and effective use of the simulation lab and skills lab facilities. The Coordinator supports students in obtaining and practicing critical nursing skills. The coordinator is responsible for ordering and maintaining lab supplies as well as programming, operating, and maintaining the high fidelity simulation manikins.
The successful candidate will create a supportive, student-centered environment in the nursing skills lab and will perform all position duties with the highest level of professionalism and integrity. S/he will work to develop and implement innovative strategies for meeting the needs of students and improving processes. The coordinator will act in accordance with the principles of the Illinois College Nursing program, including connecting with students, building relationships, acting
promptly and professionally, and working effectively within a team.
This position is an hourly, part-time, ten-month appointment, working up to 30 hours per week. The work schedule is essentially when the College is open during the academic year, typically August 1 through May 31.
Essential Functions:

- Maintain instructional laboratories in a safe, clean, and orderly condition
- Supervise students in the open laboratory and assist students with skills
- Oversee student use of equipment during lab sessions and assist students by answering questions regarding use of equipment and safe performance of nursing procedures
- Collaborate with nursing faculty in organizing lab/simulation activities to meet the needs and schedule of specific nursing courses
- Create a learning environment that will enhance student’s ability to use conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills
- Monitor inventory and order necessary supplies for the skills and simulation lab, including performing the annual inventory
- Prepare supplies and other equipment for nursing skills practice
- Oversee utilization of the skills and simulation lab and equipment
- Ensure maintenance of simulation manikins and other equipment in the skills and simulation lab; initiate repair and maintain appropriate warranties
- Follow established policies, practices, and procedures related to skills/simulation
- Ensure safety and maintain OSHA standards within the simulation lab, including appropriate disposal of hazardous waste and sharps
- Keep current with safety standards and inform the Nursing Program Director and faculty of changes in standards
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of the function and programming of the high fidelity simulation manikins and operate the manikin during simulation sessions
- Conduct tours/demonstrates equipment for internal/external stakeholders
- Maintain records of student attendance and skill performance
- Assist in preparation of the skills lab budget and monitor budget expenditures
- Attend meetings and professional development training as required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred, or willingness to obtain)
- Current, unencumbered Illinois RN license.
- Minimum of 2 years medical-surgical nursing experience.
- Teaching/training experience strongly preferred
- Intercultural competence and the ability to work with a diverse population
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft office
- Comfort with classroom presentation technology such as PowerPoint etc.
- Experience with healthcare technology and tools such as EHR, AED, etc.
- Skill at monitoring and operating high fidelity simulation manikins
