General Purpose :
The Seed Production & QC Specialist is expected to be a self-starter with a strong sense of determination, taking a leadership role in this crucial part of our business. In this capacity, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, organization, and execution of diverse tasks associated with nursery projects, selfing, parental seed increases and selection, and various quality control tasks. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess a background in seed production, and demonstrate the ability to efficiently manage tasks.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities :
- Plan and order supplies for nursery and selfing projects
- Apply for field inspections and monitor results on the MAPS account, posting them to the Production System
- Collaborate with ICIA and IFSI Research, organizing project planting plans and packets
- Oversee the supervision of H2A and other contracted seasonal employees for the nursery
- Print necessary packets, treat seeds, and pack in preparation to plant in nursery
- Map projects based on field size, dimensions, and project size
- Label PGO packets with final PGO plot numbers
- Oversee putting packets in planting order, planting, and staking the nursery
- Plan and plant projects requiring ETRs within parental seed fields
- Create stand count, pollen, silk, and other evaluation note sheets for field data collection and electronic filing
- Collect / record stand counts and flowering dates
- Harvest and evaluate HP seed and ETRs out of parental seed fields
- Support shelling, hand cleaning, and inventory ETRs from production sites
- Condition HP seed sources with various equipment
- Handpicking hybrid and parent seed
- Assist with inventory and sampling of parent seed
- Perform seed counts, moistures, seed sampling, and shipping
- Conduct seed quality or production improvement studies
- Apply for and assist with phytosanitary certificate applications
