Illinois Green is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with more than 600 members and work areas divided among education, policy and advocacy, and community initiatives.

Internship Overview

This internship will support the Building Energy Resource Hub (BERH) project by conducting audience analysis, managing and organizing data for reporting, and contributing to mapping beneficiaries from Census tracts earmarked for climate and economic justice. This internship offers a unique opportunity for a data-savvy individual passionate about sustainability and equity to gain practical experience in data analysis, GIS mapping, and stakeholder engagement.

Under the supervision of the Senior Program Manager, the intern will assist in developing insights to improve engagement and expand the reach of BERH resources. The intern will also support analytics for website interactions to identify opportunities to grow Hub audience, as well as database development, while contributing to updates on the BERH website.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct audience analysis to identify patterns and insights that enhance engagement and resource accessibility
  • Map BERH beneficiaries from environmental justice communities using GIS tools to support equity-focused programs and reporting
  • Assist with database development, organizing and analyzing data to improve decision-making and reporting processes
  • Analyze website analytics, such as clicks, downloads, and user interactions, to support reporting and strategic planning
  • Collaborate with the team to update the BERH website with relevant data, reports, and resources
  • Stay informed on best practices for audience analysis, GIS mapping, and sustainability-focused data reporting
  • Collaborate with the Senior Program Manager and Deputy Director to align deliverables with organizational goals and strategic priorities
  • Support other Illinois Green Alliance programs and activities as assigned

Qualifications/ Skills

  • Knowledge, interest, or experience in community outreach and sustainability
  • Ability to work independently, remain on task and follow projects through to completion
  • by their deadline, a self-starter
  • Commitment to advancing sustainability and environmental justice
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and Zoom. GIS skills strongly preferred
  • Preferably seeking a degree in one of the following areas of study: environmental
  • studies/sustainability, public policy, urban planning
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Commitment to advancing sustainability and environmental justice
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience or interest in writing articles, blog posts, or similar content
  • Knowledge of graphic design software or principles preferred

Location

Illinois Green Alliance is located at 180 N. LaSalle in Chicago and uses a hybrid work schedule. Local candidates preferred.
