Function / Position Summary
To work collaboratively with the Special Olympics Head Coach, students, parents, and Special Olympics Illinois in the monitoring of various Special Olympics sports for U-46 students that are members of the Special Olympics Bluestars.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist with practices and coaching games for 4 sports that run in an overlapping manner throughout the school year for athletes ages 8-22 with intellectual disabilities.
- Assist with coaching 3 of the 4 sports.
- Participate in and complete Special Olympics Illinois training requirements (application, background check, protective behaviors, concussion and sports specific training).
- Teach and promote good sportsmanship for coaches and athletes throughout practices and events.
- Attend Local, Regional, and State games / meets with athletes ensuring athletes are on deck and on time for events, chaperoned between events, provide instruction and support at events.
- Attend assistant coaches' meetings as determined by the Head Coach and Special Olympics Illinois.
- Collaboratively develop supports, strategies and training of athletes.
- Collaborate with parent, when a student exhibits behavior problems during practices and meets.
