This position serves as an Application Service Desk Technician I, performing basic technical computer application assistance for end users in accordance with defined policies and procedures. In this role you will troubleshoot to determine the cause of basic software and/or hardware issues, providing problem resolution. In addition, you will install stand-alone microcomputer hardware and deliver laptops, perform setup, and train end users on their initial use. Essential Functions

  • Under immediate supervision, serves as an Application Service Desk Technician I for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), supporting the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), assisting in performing Application Services assignments of limited scope.
  • Responds to calls for assistance promptly and in a professional manner.
  • Utilizes the Service Desk System to record, track, and update the status of all problems, requests, and resolutions.
  • As assigned, provides assistance in the installation and support of microcomputer hardware, workstations, and software at various locations.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology field by continuing education through meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields 

            OR

  • Requires satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Elementary knowledge of service desk processes and procedures.
  • Elementary knowledge of a service desk ticketing system.
  • Elementary knowledge of basic computer applications.
  • Elementary knowledge of basic troubleshooting of hardware and software issues in IT environment. 
  • Elementary knowledge of installing, configuring, and supporting Microsoft Office applications.

  • Requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. This is considered light work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(b)). Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
