Position Overview

As Labor and Employment Counsel, you will serve as primary legal counsel for the Division of Labor Relations. As a part of our Labor Relations team in a fast-paced environment at one of the largest state agencies in Illinois, every day brings a new unique labor relations challenge, and you will work directly with Executive Leadership to address these challenges. The ideal candidate has a passion for labor relations work and thrives working in an environment where there are diverse perspectives. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the Department of Corrections management team and inter-agency State of Illinois labor professionals. Essential Functions

  • Plans and directs educational program including elementary/secondary education, vocational programs, special education, curriculum approval, work/shift assignments, etc.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Monitors preparation/submittal of reports required by the Office of Adult Education and Vocational Services, facility requests for data, State Board of Education, College
  • Prepares and monitors budgetary needs and expenditures.
  • Travels to attend/participate in staff meetings, workshops, other developmental programs designed to improve/expand educational offerings.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires Professional Educator License with a General Administrative Endorsement.
  • Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible professional teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers working experience planning and directing an educational program.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years experience developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating an educational program along with recommending improvements.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years educational experience.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • Prefers working experience developing, analyzing, and monthly tracking reports for an educational program.
  • Prefers knowledge of educational programs in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers working knowledge of federal and state educational laws.
  • Prefers working experience working within a budget.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
