Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse, PN -Corrections.  This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a correctional facility.  The successful candidate shall demonstrate a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting. Essential Functions

  • Makes rounds with physician to monitor and report on patients’ progress.
  • Examines, recognizes, and interprets symptoms of residents.
  • Orders medical and other supplies.
  • Prepares and administers medication within the limits of authority.
  • Participates in completing orientation and in-service training of employees.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires Illinois license as a Practical nurse.
  • Requires one (1) year of practical nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of nursing experience in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in mental health.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience problem solving in a nursing position.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working on an interdisciplinary team.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of working experience in a leadership role.

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.  The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
