Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a motivated organized individual with a background in
clerical to serve as an Office Administrator II for the security department at the Vandalia Correctional Center.  The candidate will perform clerical functions such as keyboarding, filing, and compiling reports.  The ideal candidate will be an excellent multitasker and confident in their organizational skills.  we encourage all interested candidates to apply!

Essential Functions

  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Acts as the Security department's records advisor.  
  • Directs and maintains a large record keeping system for department policy.
  • Serves as backup for lock and key inventory.
  • Performs specialized clerical functions involving the assistance with the Roster Management System.  
  • Directs the preparation of different lists, forms, and reports.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably withing the scope of those enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two (2) years of office experience OR two (2) years of independent business experience.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 30 words per minute.
  • Qualifying state employees, in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in office practices, procedures, and programs.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience in the use of computer programs.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year experience supervising other employees.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience directing and maintaining a large record keeping system.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience multitasking and prioritizing workload to meet deadlines.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience in record keeping and filing.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience operating commonly used manual and automated office equipment.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year experience working in a correctional and/or similar like work environment.

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
