Duties & Responsibilities
Advising
• Guide graduate students through the registration process, advising on course selection, degree requirements, and academic policies. Connect students with appropriate campus resources as needed to support their academic journey and address challenges.
• Provide advising to current graduate students each semester, ensuring they are informed of degree requirements and other academic policies. The coordinator supports doctoral students through key milestones, including preliminary exams, thesis formatting, and departmental clearance. They act as a resource for students seeking guidance on their academic progress, offering support tailored to individual needs.
• Provide back-up support to the Admissions and Recruitment team, serving as a secondary point of contact for inquiries about the programs, application processes, and funding opportunities to prospective students. This involves providing detailed information on program offerings, prerequisites, and the admissions timeline.
Student Support
• Provide support and mentorship to MSW (campus and online) and Doctoral students, particularly those needing additional assistance (e.g., students on academic warning or flagged through student support forms). Serve as a resource for students’ academic and professional development within the field of social work.
• Provide crisis support and intervention for students experiencing personal or academic emergencies, connecting them with appropriate campus and community resources as needed.
• Collaborate with the Director of Student Affairs and team to develop strategies and resources for student success, addressing the diverse needs of the graduate student body.
• Offer support in evaluating student petitions related to academic progress, exceptions, and leaves of absence.
Student Programming
• Create and implement student programming for MSW (campus and online) and Doctoral students, including orientation, professional development workshops, networking events, and career-focused sessions. Collaborate with other staff to develop programming that spans both graduate and undergraduate student populations.
• Plan and organize graduate program events, such as the student awards ceremony and graduation, ensuring smooth execution and meaningful student participation.
• Collaborate with the Recruitment and Admissions Coordinator to implement and attend recruiting events.
• Other duties as assigned.
Administrative and Data Management
• Collaborate with the Admissions and Records Officer to track academic progress and ensure the accuracy of student success.
• Assist the Director of Student Affairs in preparing reports, tracking program outcomes, and compiling data related to graduate student programming and support services.
