Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Des Plaines Game Propagation Center for The Office of Land Management. This position will provide technical assistance in the captive-rearing of pheasant and quail, make repairs to plumbing/heating/air conditioning equipment, mow grass, trim shrubs and trees, plow snow, operate farm machinery, truck and trailer combinations, trenching equipment, large electrical generators, pheasant brooder building feed auger equipment, automatic waters, and radiant heaters. The Des Plaines Game Propagation Center is part of the Des Plaines State Fish and Wildlife Area in Will County, Illinois. It provides a habitat for various wildlife species, including deer, turkey, waterfowl, squirrels, rabbits, upland birds, and furbearers. We welcome all interested candidates to apply.
Essential Functions
- Under direction of the Site Assistant Superintendent 1, performs a variety of tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of DesPlaines Game Farm
- Performs semi-skilled work by performing a range of duties associated with various building trades.
- Assists with the upkeep of the game farm.
- Operates various types of equipment on site,
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of the care and feeding of game birds.
- One (1) year of experience following written and oral instructions.
- One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations

- Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.

- Physical ability to operate and maintain tolls, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings and grounds.
- Ability to lift, carry and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
- Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
- Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications within 6 months of employment and keep them current.

- May - Dec 8am - 4pm Tues-Sat (30 min. lunch) with Sun/Mon off
