Position Overview

This position serves as a survey crew technician and as needed, a plats and plans technician, the incumbent runs control levels to establish elevations, locates, describes, measures and obtains elevations of all topographic features, establishes control for aerial mapping projects and mobile Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) projects, stakes right-of way, performs courthouse deed and survey research, performs Departmental file research and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Collects and processes accurate and timely land survey data obtained through the use of surveying equipment.
  • Obtains topographic and planimetric data for preparing plans, reports, right-of-way plats and legal descriptions.
  • Researches property records and compiles data necessary to complete assigned survey and plat projects.
  • Locates and sets new alignments and right-of-way positions.
  • Accountable for the maintenance and repair of survey instruments and equipment.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or related field PLUS thirty months of engineering experience, OR six years of engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of CADD, GIS, and current survey equipment and software.
  • Ability to plan, organize and execute administrative or technical program requirements.
  • Knowledge of the preparation and reading of construction plans.
  • Knowledge of courthouse research.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with employees, agency officials and the public.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.

  • Extensive districtwide travel and some statewide, which may include overnight stays.
  • Occasional overtime during evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, climb steep terrain, wade in water, and deal with poisonous plants, animals, insects, rodents, and snakes; and to perform outdoor work in a variety of conditions including, but not limited to hot, cold, wet, windy, muddy, active construction sights, and roadways open to traffic.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.
