We are hiring two Taxpayer Account Processing Agent III’s (Revenue Tax Specialist III’s) for our Returns & Deposit Operations Bureau (RDOB) within our Account Processing Administration (APA) located in Springfield IL. This position is responsible for serving as an advanced technical specialist by performing in-depth research and analysis on various tax issues; providing guidance, training, and assistance to lower-level staff; as well as clearly and accurately documenting step-by-step procedures for multiples tasks. Essential Functions
- Under general direction, provides advanced technical and consultative services to Returns and Deposit Bureau (RDOB) staff, information technology staff, taxpayers, those representing taxpayers, and others.
- Performs extensive and in-depth research and analysis of the most complex or sensitive tax issues.
- Develops, reviews, and revises operating procedures and manuals.
- Determines compliance with statutes and policy, detects deficiencies, and resolves discrepancies through analyzing various types of tax forms, supporting documentation, and any other relevant documentation.
- Keeps management apprised of processing, statutory, or procedural problems encountered.
- Coordinates work, technical issues, etc., with other areas of IDOR to resolve procedural conflicts, request informational assistance, etc.
- Participates in a variety of special projects and test teams as directed.
- Serves as a participant or leader in the design, testing, and implementation of new or revised processing systems.
- Confers with taxpayers, their representatives, service agencies, and others by telephone and written correspondence.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires three years of experience as a Revenue Tax Specialist II with the Illinois Department of Revenue and either: knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college; OR four years of work experience providing tax related support functions within a program area at the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
- This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc.
