Responsibilities
The Hospice Director (RN) oversees all aspects of patient care, supervises professional staff and allied health personnel, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, manages financial performance, and drives quality assurance improvement. The Director or an appointed representative will be available during business hours and, if necessary, beyond.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, policies, and procedures related to hospice care and Medicare/Medicaid.
- Be readily available on-site during business hours or accessible by phone when off-site but conducting agency business, including after hours if needed.
- Manage the daily operations of the agency and oversee the Care Management Process. The Director or an assigned RN, such as a Patient Care Manager, will receive daily reports on patients from the staff. This includes reviewing patient care paperwork, referral information, recertification processes, discharge information, event reporting, etc., on a daily basis.
- Review monthly financial results to ensure cost-effective delivery of quality patient care.
- Participate in QAPI planning, processes, reporting, and improvement action plans. This involves conducting chart audits, assessing patient satisfaction, managing finances, reviewing contracts, addressing patient/family complaints, and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
Education and Experience
License Requirements
- Must possess a valid license as a physician, registered nurse, or social worker; or have a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in the respective discipline/field of study and at least one (1) year of full-time experience in a hospice, home health, or similar healthcare delivery system setting.
- Preferred: Three (3) years of healthcare leadership experience.
- Current CPR certification is required for Executive Directors who may provide field services.
- Must have a valid Driver's License, vehicle insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle or public transportation.
