Job Summary:
The Bookkeeping Specialist will play a vital role in managing the financial operations of our real estate portfolio. Reporting to the Real Estate Accounting Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing daily accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles, have excellent organizational skills, and demonstrate a passion for the real estate industry
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
- Process accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments and tenant billing, while ensuring timely collections and payments.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy in cash flow tracking.
- Record and manage asset depreciation schedules and accruals in compliance with accounting standards.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support business decision-making.
- Collaborate with the accounting manager to prepare financial reports and presentations for company leadership.
- Support year-end audits by preparing schedules, gathering necessary documentation, and liaising with auditors.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and all relevant tax regulations, including property taxes and sales taxes.
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation for regulatory and internal purposes.
- Partner with property management and leasing teams to resolve tenant inquiries and ensure accurate billing of rents and CAM (Common Area Maintenance) charges.
- Provide financial insights and support to other departments to facilitate smooth operations and strategic planning.
- Assist with special projects and process improvements as needed to enhance accounting operations.
Qualifications:
- 3 years minimum experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably within the real estate, property management, or lending industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with internal teams.
- Proficiency in real estate accounting systems (Yardi Breeze)and real estate lending a plus but not required.
